1^st Croatian Guard Battalion was formed on April 18, 1994 from Ministry of Defense Special unit, “Zrinski” battalion, some parts of General Staff special unit, and following battalions: “Frankopan”, “Ban Jelačić”, “Matija Vlačić”, “Ferdo Sučić” and parts of “HV Light attack brigade”. Till 2000 unit was under command of President of Croatia and National Security Council. 1^st Croatian Guard Battalion was the most elite unit of Croatian military forces and was the only one with integrated forces from different branches: parachutists battalion, armored battalion, electronic surveillance unit and own helicopter unit.  In 2000 goes under general staff command, and during that year unit was moved to new formed 350^th intelligence brigade and to Special operations battalion, where was in latter reorganization disbanded and melted into new unit.
